Fitness Friday #3

Pilates – a new workout for me.  Here is some info :

Pilates is a body conditioning routine that helps build flexibility and long, lean muscles, strength and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips, and back. It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing to relieve stress and allow adequate oxygen flow to muscles, developing a strong core or center (tones abdominals while strengthening the back), and improving coordination and balance. Pilates’ flexible system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginning to advanced. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises. No muscle group is under or over trained. (Thank you Wikipedia for this)

Intimidating, right?

Alaska Pacific University offers a class two days a week on my lunch break and I decided why not? I have heard so many great things about it. I have done Windsor Pilates before – via VHS tape in college. I loved it then and thought maybe I could try it again and get back out of my fitness rut! I really enjoyed the class and the instructor was so very nice!

I have enjoyed it so much that I think I might try to take a weekend class or another week night class to give me some inner peace.  Even though we got some good news on Wednesday – I think keeping my inner peace about military life is a must!  I am going to purchase my own mat as I want something that is totally me.

Your thoughts?

Denise Austin. She was my introduction to Pilates. I can’t tell you how many times I have wanted to haul off and smack that perky smile off her face. LOL

I did Pilates for a while. Loved it! I haven’t tried it in a few years though. Gonna see if I can find a prenatal tai chi video today. 🙂
