I am now 13 weeks and 5 days.  My energy has hit another low and I think that it is part depression and part baby. The winter is setting in here with snow flurries about every other day and it is so stinking dark in the mornings now I can’t stand it. I was warned about this happening by the doctor and I can really feel it here lately. My husband says I am such a downer – but when you are used to summer 10 months of the year and you really got 2 days this year – You would be a downer as well. I will be buying this thing they call a “Happy Light” in the near future.

I had my first Parent Teacher Conference yesterday. I am going to admit I was a little scared but I now good to go. My daughter is the exact child I thought she was and I am glad that I know her as well as the person who spends most of the day with her. She is only in Kindergarten, but I take her learning very serious. I also take her self-esteem very serious so I was shocked when I was informed about a couple of mean girls in the class. Abby is not part of it, but seems to occasionally get sucked in – more to protect herself from it.  I had a feeling this was happening, but I was also glad when it seems that her teacher shared with me that my thoughts were valid. Being a parent to a young child is kind of like being a mind reader!

I am going through some major de-cluttering. My husband irritates me because it doesn’t matter how much stuff he has – but if I have stuff it can’t be seen. UGH! I am so irritated by it that I just want the stuff gone! I am obviously going to keep stuff – but I am going to get rid of the stuff that most seems to bug him and them go through what I do have get rid of the stuff I have been thinking about doing something with. I need to do something or get rid of it. Anyone want crafty stuff?

So that is what I got going on along with class that starts next week. I am excited about that actually. It is 2 hours a night that I can get with no interruption at all. It is exciting to me. How sad, right?

I am still entertaining the idea of a gym membership just so that I can get out of the house and have some me time as every time I sit down to Yoga kids get involved and not in a productive manner!

Fitness Friday #9

17 Aug

Pregnancy….got to love it! I know for me that I will need to take it easy at first. I am usually pretty sick and I don’t want to push my luck in the beginning. I do know however that there are certain things that I will be doing for this pregnancy and during it so that my hips, that are already bad, will stay loose and I will not be out of breath walking at month 7!

Luckily my campus has on-sight *free* fitness classes that I can take advantage of and it will fit perfectly into my budget! The public is welcome – they have a minimal fee of $5 per class – which I say isn’t bad!

#1 Beach Body has a yoga DVD that is for pregnancy – I will be ordering it and I will be giving more information on it as we go!

#2 Zumba – the instructor just had her 4th baby and will be very familiar with what I should and should not be doing! that is two nights a week but I will most likely only do one.

#3  Beginner Fitness class on Wednesday is on my lunch hour (SCORE!) and I can stay in a light weight environment as this class is for people who are beginners and that way I won’t feel much competition to do more than I should!

#4 Water Aerobics – this is offered a couple of times a week and as the months go on I will be sure to take advantage of this!

#5 WALK – I will make sure I walk everywhere and not find the closest parking humanly possible.

#6 Stay hydrated – this way I don’t feel any bad side effects from the exercise!

As time goes on this may change – but my plan is to stay as active as I can!!

Fitness Friday #8

10 Aug

Okay – first let’s get some business taken care of : Mission Possible Giveaway Winner: Jennifer Boudreau – I sent a Facebook Message for your address! CONGRATS!

Okay – so now that we are talking Baby #3 is on the way…my fitness is going to need to be modified as we go! Since I am a new BeachBody Coach I am obviously going to be using their workouts – lots of Turbo Jam up in here!!! I also am going to be using Shakelology – once my doctor okays it – as my pre-natal vitamin. I cannot swallow huge pills and since they are gross in and of itself – I am praying they say okay!

Instead of running I will be reverting the elliptical machine on my lunch hour as I need something to stay moving due to the joint issues I have. I need to keep the joints moving and running just won’t do as I don’t want to be jumping and jostling a while bunch and I can still slow and speed up as my body says it is okay.

I have also signed up for a class called Fitness for Life here at Alaska Pacific University and I cannot wait to take it!  I think it will help me get a better understanding of  some basics and some obvious new nutrition info that I could use. I am taking this as a first step towards my personal training and more in-depth coaching with Team Beach Body.

Lots of fun and exciting things coming in my future and I cannot wait to take charge of it all! I will prevail!

5 Things I Want To Change

4 Aug

Another awesome list like thing I call 5 Things where I list 5 things about a certain topic! I would love for you to link up at well by blogging your 5 things and then commenting with your link!

This week I am doing 5 Things I Want To Change – and trust me – it was not easy to narrow down to just 5. Sometimes I am an over achiever and can’t just take it slow, then I overwhelm myself….I am working on it – I promise!

#1 – What I do to get a paycheck.  @KellyOlexa and @YourInnerSkinny have taken the leap and left their jobs for what they love. They are making their dreams work for them. I want to join them. My goal is to narrow down exactly what it is that I want to do and make it happen by the beginning of 2013 so that by next summer I can make it happen. I figure this should not be a hasty decision, that is why I am giving myself time.

#2 – How I keep in touch with people. I don’t feel like I do a good enough job anymore. We are all busy people – I get that. I just never want to say – I will call them tomorrow and God forbid something happen today. Whether I start making Skype and FaceTime dates, phone call appointments, keep cards with me at all times to write letters, send photo cards – whatever – I just need to get it going.

#3 – My need to spend money. I like to shop. I do and it is for no real reason! I just know that if I want to be able to make my #1 happen – I need to stop this and focus my energies to working hard and not spending hard. I would really like to have some savings started!

#4 – My social media reach. Sounds kind of self-centered. I know. I just want to really show that I can be influential in the things that I am passionate about. I have already started to do some things differently this month and I want to just be able to keep it going and tweak it as necessary.

#5 – How we eat in our house. We have to re-think food. We used to eat so much better in North Carolina. Fresh fruit and veggies, and affordable priced items were everywhere. Up here it is so expensive and it has hindered our ability to focus our healthy eating habits. I want to make sure that we cut in other places (#3) so that we can make this a priority. Getting everyone else on board will be a little hard – but I think I can do it!

What are 5 things you want to change?

The Weekly Chase – Week #4

30 Jul

So this last week was not so stellar – my mojo up and got gone. I think this weather that is gloomy and rainy really affects me more than I know and I have to figure out a better way to combat this. I mean that sincerely!

#1 – 100 Mile Challenge – um yeah – I have decided to drop this as my running is just not happening in this rainy weather right now and when I do get a nice day we have other this we have to get done. I hate being a quitter – but I quit this one!

#2 – Plank-A-Day – my goal was 3 minutes and I came up a little shy (by 30 seconds) but I am not giving up that easy on this one!

#3 – Facebook C Diet – Yeah my diet sucks if I didn’t already know this – but I am more conscious! I must also say that I have now discovered a love for Chobani and it includes eating it up to 3 times a day – I seriously love this stuff with some granola…heaven!

#4 – Clean out my craft closet – This didn’t happen – plain and simple.

#5 – Team Beach Body – I met with my awesome upline Carin and we seem to have the same style so I am looking forward to building this up!

#6 – Operation Beautiful – I did my first post-it and it was very exciting!

Okay – so really not that fantastic – but I think I just need some different things to go for to clear my head – so here goes nothing~

#1 – Operation Beautiful – I am going to make this one a higher priority – I need to feel good by doing good – since this weather is just plain sucky.

#2 – Plank-A-Day – I WILL get 3 minutes – it will not escape me this week!

#3 – Read the Girls A Bed Time Story Every Night – school is starting for my oldest soon and I just feel it is important. My dad and mom used to read to us and I really think that instilled a love of reading to this day.

#4 – Team Beach Body – Get my goals set this week and get a game plan!

#5 – Research Vitamins – I had asked our dear friend Kelly over at GNC about vitamins and such…I need to help myself some by getting on a routine of vitmains….I need to really research this and get it started. I want to take a look at some other companies as well…

SO there is it…A little different start for my goals to give my mind a rest from being anxious over running.

Questions – What vitamins/supplements do you take and why?

The Weekly Chase – Week 2

16 Jul

Man I am loving have weekly goals instead of monthly – I think it really helps keep things attainable!

Here is a recap of last week:

Goal #1 – Get all my bio’s written for a couple different groups I am in. ****I got one of them done. Sad I know…but I will be adding this to the loop this week!****

Goal #2 – Purge my closet.  ****Done. Not much to purge after all as I realized most of the stuff was just coats making my closet look big. I guess I should have put them in the hall closet from the beginning!****

Goal #3 – Plank A Day challenge. ****I did great! I did not get it in on Wednesday as that is softball and I expected that and Saturday just got away from me. I am pleased as I did do a 2:02 plank!****

Goal #4 – Figure out what new fitness class I will take and get signed up by Friday!****I was going to take a Barre class this Thursday at 6:45, but my parents are coming into town! I do have the schedule so I am more likely going to go next week after they leave****

Goal #5 – Sit down and make the pending opportunity I have a reality.****Not going to happen for another couple of months but I am okay with this!****

This weeks goals:

Goal #1 – Get my house ready for the parents visit! They come in on Wednesday and I want to have the house looking better than it is now. This is another perfect opportunity to get rid of some stuff and maybe make some cash doing it!

Goal #2 – Enjoy my parent’s visit! I took off work Thursday and Friday so that I can enjoy the time. I don’t ever take time off of work. I am sickly too dedicated to my job.

Goal #3 – 100 Mile Challenge – This will be updated in another post this week with more details – but I will be taking part in completing 100 miles between July 15 and August 15 – and gosh darn it I can’t wait! I will be starting it probably today or tomorrow just depending on how much of the house I can get clean!

Goal #4 – Plank-A-Day Challenge – Still doing it and still loving it!

Goal #5 – Finish getting my bios done!

Goal #6 – Get a routine so I can get into the CrossFit gym!

What do you have going on??

Things Change

15 Jul

It is funny how you have plans to do one thing and something unexpected comes up and it doesn’t go the way you want it to or need it to. Things change so fast and you have to be willing to move and change with it.

I have been going through this all my life so I am no stranger to this. When I was 7 we moved from Traer, Iowa to Skaneateles, New York. I was young so change was something I had no control over so of course, I went with it. In Iowa I was into gymnastics. I loved it like no other. In New York we showed rabbits (mostly because that is what my mom liked) and was involved in cheerleading.

Soon enough we moved to Centerburg, Ohio where I was finally able to get back into gymnastics and horse riding. I LOVED IT. I loved every part of it. I was whole again. I had the hard practices for gymnastics and showing horses. I did this as a team and an individual which I loved. My performance was based on me and I could control it for the most part. I also was part of something greater – a team that allowed me to have people to cheer for to cheer for me to help us collectively win. I love that feeling more than anything in the world.

After a few years and college I moved to Sanford, North Carolina to be with my future husband and job. I struggled a little bit to find my place back in a gym with coaching and such. I didn’t find a real home. I ended up getting married and having two beautiful daughters which brought me back a happy place of gym classes, ballet classes, and finally finding friends again. My husband then got into mud car racing and again we had a team of friends we did this with so it was so much fun for me! I also found running and fitness. This is where I really found myself. I was able to push myself and beat myself and have a team to cheer me on the whole way with Brick City Running Tribe and Studio C Fitness. They were awesome – and they were family.

Another move decided to bring it self around and this one was to Anchorage, Alaska – half way around the world it seemed and was. Here I found myself in a place where I did not want to be. Extreme cold, snow, darkness, and no one. I struggled to find my groove in this place. How does one exercise in this type of climate? Oh yeah – they pay WAY TOO MUCH for a gym membership and do it inside. No thanks – my budget does not allow for that since daycare costs more than half my income each month. When I found a job I also found that they had a gym – bonus! I could use it free of charge! I like it in the fact that I can get my runs and such in on my lunch break and not have to worry about childcare. That is what basically everything hinges on for me. My husband is a soldier which means unpredictable schedule. I plan my life as a single mother would.

I needed something more still. It wasn’t working. I decided to visit the local CrossFit gym on base as it was free to military. I can’t bring my kids so I did it on a Saturday morning that my husband was not golfing. I loved it. The competition factor of it all was great. You push each other and push yourself. I was not as fit as I wanted to be but that is why you go back.  I want to go back.

Sitting here this weekend contemplating my vlog for today I decided that I didn’t want to vlog but I wanted to write about the CrossFit I was watching all weekend and the Twitter updates all weekend from my FitFluential people who got a chance to go and live it. It was awesome. It was like I was watching where I want to be. I loved it. It made me kind of sad in a way though. I know this will take some severe changing on my schedule and such so that I can make this happen. I need to make this happen. If I want to be happy again and in my element of competition and team – I need to just do it. I need to get into it.

Is there anything that you need to accomplish and will take some changes? Why not make yourself happy and do it? Stop waiting on tomorrow and someone else to push you to it. You need to make it for yourself – you deserve it. Don’t wait and get unhappy – take the first step to being you. I am going to do it tomorrow by planning out my week to make sure I can get to the gym and make it happen. I hope you do the same.

What’s New Wednesday #12 – A Day In The Life

11 Jul

5:00 Up – make my hubby his coffee and turn on the news. Check emails and Facebook via my phone on the couch under a nice warm blanket. I don’t move until my husband has left and then some 🙂

6:00 I get up and start moving. I have been doing a little circuit that I got off of Pintrest (you can check my boards if you wanna!) and do that while watching more news (I love Morning Express with Robin Meade). It consists of push-ups, crunches, planks, lunges, and jumping. If this doesn’t do it for me I will Zumba with my Wii. I did just get my first Jillian Michael’s video to sweat up to!

6:30 Shower time, get dressed, and make my bed.

6:45 wake the kiddos and give them some loving while brushing their teeth and hair and fighting over clothes every morning – *sigh* – and then get myself ready and make a protein shake while the kids get their shoes on

7:20 out the door to daycare – drop them off then head to work! I try to get to work by 7:45 so I can get my day started before it actually starts (meaning computer on and things up and running!)

8:00 – 4:30 work…..on my breaks I check Facebook, twitter, and blogs – gotta love it!

***When fall semester starts back up here at the University I will be back to 1 hour lunches and running and utilizing our gym again!!!! WAHOO!

4:30 pick the kids up from daycare then head home to fix dinner!

5:00 continue with dinner, then eat, clean up, and lace up

5:30 outside to get something physical in and/or just play with my kids!

6:30 BATH TIME! I do planks while they are in the bath, yoga poses, start laundry, etc.

7:00 TV

7:30 bed time (or the start of the long process of putting my kiddos to bed) – here is where I clean up the kitchen and get some things in order and sorted

8:00 Kiss the kids goodnight for the last time and go downstairs to YouTube, read blogs, yoga, plan, and relax.

9:00/9:30 bedtime for me!

Is your routine basically the same everyday??? Mine is!!!

The Weekly Chase – My First Week!

9 Jul

So my friend Melissa over at Live, Love, & Run is getting people motivated with The Weekly Chase ever Monday! I love motivation and I love goal setting – most likely because it is like making a list – and I think Melissa rocks!

I did not have any weekly goals from last week to talk about so I am going to jump right into this week!

Goal #1 – Get all my bio’s written for a couple different groups I am in. I have been slacking on this and am missing the boat on some free press! I need to just flat-out do it!

Goal #2 – Purge my closet. Lets face it – all the clothes I don’t wear are to the back, and I get mad that I have too much in my closet. I need to get rid of what I don’t wear or will ever wear and face the facts that I really do only wear about 10 different outfits ever. Oh well.

Goal #3 – Plank A Day challenge. I did not do it at all this weekend, which is sad since I really didn’t accomplish anything this weekend! I am going to get back to it and make a personal record for this. I can do it and I will – a 3 minute plank.

Goal #4 – Figure out what new fitness class I will take and get signed up by Friday!

Goal #5 – Sit down and make the pending opportunity I have a reality. Figure everything out so there are no excuses….more details to come!!

I hope you can make some goals and join us in this fun for the week!
